EBN Emergency Broadcast Network is a multimedia performance group formed in 1991

Emergency Broadcast Network (EBN) was a multimedia performance group that emerged in 1991. The group's name was inspired by the Emergency Broadcast System, which is a system used in the United States to relay important information to the public during emergencies. EBN was founded by three graduates from the Rhode Island School of Design, Joshua Pearson, Gardner Post, and Brian Kane, who had a shared interest in music, video, and technology. Together, they created a unique form of entertainment that combined music, video, and political satire.

EBN's performances were unlike anything that had been seen before. The group's signature style involved manipulating found footage from television news broadcasts, movies, and commercials to create a new narrative. The footage was synced to music, which was often a combination of electronic beats, hip-hop, and rock. The result was a high-energy, multimedia experience that was both entertaining and thought-provoking.

One of the group's most famous performances was at the 1992 Democratic National Convention, where they provided the soundtrack for a live video montage of politicians and celebrities. The performance was controversial, as it included footage of President George H.W. Bush seemingly lip-syncing to the Talking Heads song "Once in a Lifetime." The performance received widespread media attention and helped to establish EBN as a force in the entertainment industry.

EBN released several albums, including "Telecommunication Breakdown" and "From the Longform Video," which featured their unique style of music and video. The group's music was heavily sampled and remixed by other artists, and their influence can still be heard in the work of contemporary artists who combine music and video in their performances.

Although EBN disbanded in the late 1990s, their legacy continues to live on. Their innovative approach to multimedia performance paved the way for other artists and performers to experiment with new forms of entertainment. EBN's influence can be seen in everything from music videos to live concerts, and their contribution to the entertainment industry will always be remembered.
